Organisers have confirmed that Newquay Pride, scheduled for Saturday August 29th, has been cancelled because of severe weather. Thousands were expected to gather for the parade, but strong winds and thunderstorms are forecast for the south of the country this weekend. Organisers have pledged to hold the event by the end of the year.
In a statement, Cornwall Pride, the organisers behind the parade, apologised and said the decision was made to keep participants safe. They said: "Due to the severe weather conditions, we have made the difficult decision to cancel Newquay Pride tomorrow."
"This decision has not been made lightly," they added. "The safety and wellbeing of our community, volunteers, performers, traders and everyone planning to attend must always come first."
"With the current forecast, we cannot safely deliver the event that our community deserves. We know how disappointing this will be, and we share that disappointment."
"Cornwall Pride cares deeply about our community, and we are committed to making sure Newquay Pride can run again later in the year."
