A man in his 70s has died following an incident on Croyde Beach this afternoon.
Witnesses told Devon Live they saw around five police cars, three ambulances and the Devon Air Ambulance following the incident in the early afternoon. One eyewitness said they saw the air ambulance make two landings.
Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed this afternoon that the individual involved has died.
A spokesperson for the force said: "We were called at around 1.25pm on Wednesday 12 August following a report of a man having suffered a medical episode whilst in the sea at Croyde Beach.
"Sadly, despite resuscitation attempts the man in his 70s was pronounced deceased at the scene.
"His next of kin have been informed."
