One North Devon coastguard team has faced one of its toughest days to date.
On a single day, the Croyde Coastguard Rescue team was called to a series of incidents, including a person who jumped from a bridge, a missing child, an elderly gentleman found dead in the water on the beach, and a mass tide cut off rescue.
The first callout on Wednesday, August 12, took the team to Taw Bridge, where they responded to a distressed individual who subsequently jumped from the bridge. The volunteers carried out the rescue and transferred the casualty to the care of a waiting ambulance service.
Shortly afterwards, the coastguard was tasked with a report of a missing seven-year-old child on Westward Ho! beach. Fortunately, after a rapid search operation, the child was located safe and well.
The team was then deployed to Croyde Beach, where a 72-year-old man was reported floating in the water. Despite the efforts of all emergency services involved, the man could not be revived, and he was declared deceased at the scene.
Croyde team station officer Paul Holdsworth said: "On August 12, our team experienced what can only be described as an exceptionally busy and challenging day."
