Wet weather didn't stop people from coming to the Royal Cornwall Showground on Saturday to help break a world record. The event, organised by Cornwall Hospice Care, aimed to make Cornwall the Guinness World Records holder for the Largest Cream Tea Party, beating the previous record of 1,088 set in Beijing.
There was excitement before, during and after the event. Before the countdown, crowds outside the venue were entertained by the Cornwall Rewind Radio crew, with Managing Director Richard Woods and Rewind Radio Retro Matt Shepherd engaging with visitors.
Inside the marquee, stalls sold local goods and Jam First merchandise for souvenirs.
Once seated, participants were entertained by Cornish comedian Johnny Cowling, with music from the Boscastle Buoys, Many Men Soundsystem, and Rock Choir Cornwall, led by Marcus Alleyne.
Paulina from Guinness World Records was in attendance, making sure everyone ate their tea and scone correctly.
Then came the main event. After the countdown, everyone tucked into cream teas provided by Prima Bakeries, Rodda's, Boddington's, and Tregothan.

Following an anxious wait, the result was revealed on Monday, 21 September 2026, and Cornwall came out victorious. 2,483 people successfully completed their cream tea, officially making Cornwall a world record holder.
A spokesperson for Cornwall Hospice Care said: "We did it!
"Cornwall Hospice Care now proudly holds the @GuinnessWorldRecords title for Largest Cream Tea Party! 2,483 people came together to enjoy one of Cornwall's favourite treats and beat the previous record of 1,088, held in Beijing.
"Thank you so much to everyone who came, scoffed and sipped their way to this incredible result."
