Cornwall's Rewind Radio has announced the launch of its new sister station, Rewind Radio Retro, which will go live this October. The station will play music from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, offering classic hits and familiar voices from Cornwall's radio scene.
Former BBC Radio Cornwall presenter Matt Shepherd will lead the station as Breakfast Presenter. He joins after a 32-year career with the BBC. Martin Bailie, who has 42 years of radio experience and spent much of it on BBC Radio Cornwall, is also part of the initial line-up.
Matt Shepherd said: "I'm so excited to be at the start of something new and I can't wait to wake up Cornwall with the best music ever made."
Martin Bailie said: "Every time a song starts playing, you'll know the words, so just sing along and join in the fun."
Richard Woods, Managing Director of Cornwall's Rewind Radio, said: "Five years ago, we launched Cornwall's Rewind Radio with a simple ambition: to bring great music from the 80s, 90s and 00s to listeners across Cornwall while keeping local radio alive and thriving. Since then, we've always wanted to evolve and offer something for every generation of music lover.
"The launch of our new Retro station is an exciting next step in that journey, bringing the very best music from the 60s, 70s and 80s to listeners across Cornwall, while Cornwall's Rewind Radio will move towards a stronger focus on the 90s through to today's biggest hits.
"We're also proud to have expanded our team with some highly experienced presenters whose talent, warmth and reassuring voices add real gravitas to our output across the county. As a truly local broadcaster, we're passionate about serving our communities and ensuring local radio continues to have a strong future.
"Most importantly, none of this would have been possible without the incredible support of our listeners over the past five years. We thank every one of them for being part of our journey and helping us make this exciting new chapter a reality."
Listeners can tune in from October. The station will be available on DAB+, online, via mobile app, and through smart speakers.
