The A38 has reopened after a three-vehicle crash near Ashburton on Saturday, 19 September. All lanes were closed for a time while emergency services recovered the vehicles, but traffic has now returned to normal.
The collision happened on the southbound carriageway between Peartree Junction in Ashburton and Dartbridge Junction in Buckfast. Traffic monitoring site INRIX first reported the incident just after 2pm, saying: "Reports of slow traffic due to accident, one vehicle involved on A38 Southbound from B3352 (Peartree Junction, Ashburton) to A384 (Dartbridge Junction, Buckfast)."
INRIX later confirmed the closure, stating: "Police have confirmed that the accident involved three vehicles, the road is now closed for recovery of the vehicles to take place."
Drivers faced delays of up to 22 minutes during the afternoon, though National Highways later predicted that delays would drop to 11 minutes. By around 4pm, the expected delay was 14 minutes.
Heavy congestion also spread to Eastern Road in Ashburton itself as motorists tried to avoid the blocked A38. Traffic has since eased. All lanes reopened by 5.20pm and traffic returned to normal.
