A motorhome and the car it was towing were destroyed in a fire on the A399 at Wistland Pound, leaving an oil spill that closed the road in both directions. The incident was first reported at around 8.20am, and police confirmed services were dealing with a large oil spill. Highways were also on the scene. The road is affected between the B3358 at Wistland Pound and the A39 at Blackmoor Gate.

A Devon and Cornwall Police Spokesperson said: "Police were called by the fire service at 8.20am today, 14 September, following a vehicle fire on the A399 between Blackmoor Gate and Bratton Fleming. The incident involving a motorhome towing a car. The car caught alight. The A399 is blocked and closed at Blackmoor Gate. Highways are also on scene. Services are dealing with a large oil spill as a result of the incident. All ongoing at the scene."
Inrix said at 11.34am that the road remains closed after the vehicle fire.
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 8.18am this morning, two appliances from Barnstaple and Lynton fire stations were called to attend a vehicle fire on the road between Friendship Farm and Blackmoor Gate, near Bishop Flemming in North Devon. Crews used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire, and an environment pack was used to prevent fuel from entering a nearby stream. The vehicle and a trailer were both destroyed by fire. The scene has now been handed over to the police and National Highways."
