Police have arrested a man in his 60s after a fire broke out in a flat in a four-storey building, forcing 30 people to evacuate.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to Hospital Road in Plymouth at about 23:40 BST on Sunday following reports of flames coming from a first-floor flat window.
Eight fire engines were sent to the scene. Fire crews rescued seven people from separate flats. The flat where the fire started was destroyed, and the first-floor communal area was slightly damaged, according to firefighters.
Devon and Cornwall Police said nobody was injured in the fire.
The fire service said two other communal areas were also damaged by smoke, and crews used water jets and breathing apparatus to deal with the incident.
