A woman has died after an incident at Tinside Lido, prompting a large emergency response at the waterfront venue this afternoon.
Firefighters, police, paramedics and Coastguard members attended Madeira Road on Plymouth Hoe earlier today after reports of concern for a woman's welfare at the Lido.
Plymouth Active, which manages the outdoor swimming centre, later said the Lido would be closed for the rest of the day on Wednesday, September 2, "following a serious medical incident this afternoon."
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: "We were called at 12:48hrs on Wednesday 2 September to an incident in Plymouth. We sent two double-crewed land ambulances, an operations officer, a rapid response vehicle and a doctor to the scene."
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police has now confirmed the details. They said: "We were called at 1.05pm on Wednesday 2 September following a report of a concern for welfare for a woman at Tinside Lido, Plymouth. Emergency services attended the scene. She was treated by paramedics but sadly the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
