West Coast Academy (WCA) is celebrating its 12th anniversary, marking more than a decade of growth and community impact. Founded in 2014, the academy has expanded from school-based cheerleading sessions to a purpose-built home in Redruth. What started with fewer than 100 athletes now sees more than 400 people attending each week for parkour, gymnastics and cheerleading. The academy runs six competitive cheerleading teams that compete across the country.
WCA benefits from specialist facilities, including a dedicated parkour studio with wooden obstacles, soft equipment and a new foam pit, alongside a cheerleading and gymnastics studio featuring a sprung floor and tumble track.
The academy aims to help people stay active, learn new skills and build confidence in a fun, supportive environment. It offers free assemblies to local schools, introducing children to the benefits of being active, and runs parkour, gymnastics and cheerleading birthday parties, including its ever-popular Nerf Battle party.
Parent James Gazzard said: “A fantastic charity supporting people to learn new skills and develop confidence. My kids, of various ages, love it and I’ve now joined the adult gym sessions too, doing things I never thought possible.”
