An inquest has opened into the death of an 87-year-old retired teacher who died in the sea in East Devon.
Mary Hilda Kilminster, from Budleigh Salterton, was pronounced deceased at Exmouth RNLI station on June 21, an inquest at Devon Coroners Court in Exeter heard.
The short public hearing was told that Ms Kilminster's car was found on the seafront at Budleigh Salterton and she was located within the water.
Emergency services were in attendance and she was recovered from the sea.
Ms Kilminster's provisional cause of death was given as drowning.
The inquest was adjourned and a full hearing will take place at a later date.
