The organisers of a sailing race have praised competitors after a few encountered difficulties and required assistance from the RNLI off the coast of St Agnes.
The Bucca Kri event, described by organisers as the first 'grade 4' downwind race in the UK, took place on Saturday, September 19.
The surf ski race started at Harlyn Beach and finished at Carbis Bay, St Ives, covering a distance of 55k.
Challenging wind and sea conditions meant some competitors did not finish, and the RNLI were called.
Ocean Surfski confirmed that 24 competitors and teams took part across various categories, with five failing to finish.
The RNLI were tasked at around 10.30am to assist competitors just off St Agnes Head. Some competitors were recovered from the water by the event safety boat.
A spokesperson for the RNLI said: "Volunteer RNLI lifeboat crews from St Agnes and St Ives were tasked around 10.30am on Saturday 19 September to assist competitors taking part in an organised surf ski event.
"Both St Ives lifeboats and St Agnes D class lifeboat were tasked by the Coastguard to the incident off St Agnes Head.
"The competitors were recovered from the water by the event safety boat.
"Casualties were assisted by our crews and transferred back to St Ives for further assessment."
Ocean Surfski said one crew retired and two surf skis experienced equipment failure, with the safety boat and race control boat rescuing the competitors. One double surf ski was recovered by an event safety boat due to "severe sea sickness", and another double surf ski was recovered when it went off course.
Ocean Surfski added: "At no time was anyone recovered out of the water by the RNLI.
"The RNLI did deploy due to a call from a competitor.
"We very much appreciate the assistance of the RNLI, which meant the competitors received the best care and were able to be returned to shore in quick time.
"Congratulations on a superb Bucca Kri."
