The owner of a dog rescued from the roof of her house said she was "incredibly grateful to those who saved him". Emma Seager said Sweetie, a rescue dog from Macedonia, "likes to get out and about so we have had to modify the house a lot, but we didn't ever dream he'd be able to open a window and scramble up the roof". The dog was rescued on 19 August by Falmouth Community Firefighters, who used a 13.5m (44.3ft) ladder to return him to solid ground. The family now has to lock windows firmly before going out.
Seager said: "He's kept us on our toes for the three years he's been with us… we're only too aware it could have had a very different ending." She added: "Sweetie is back on solid ground – for now – but we still expect more shenanigans from him." Seager said she was "incredibly grateful to those who saved him" and said the much loved pet was "charming and full of character, we love him to bits".
Jon Walker, from Falmouth Community Fire Station, said the dog was on the apex of a two-storey house and had got there through a first floor bedroom window which opened onto a pitch of the roof. He said the team had to avoid frightening the dog to ensure it was brought down to the ground safely during the rescue. He said: "The dog had been up there for an hour or two, but had no way of getting down. It was fairly traumatised." They used a ladder that takes four crew to handle to get Sweetie back to the ground. Walker said Sweetie jumped into her rescuer's arms and was brought back to ground level. He said: "It is a rarity and we get far fewer cats than people would believe."
