A community is in shock after a violent and public fight left one man seriously injured on Monday, August 24.
Dramatic footage of the incident on Calenick Street in Truro showed a person wielding what appeared to be a large knife.
Devon and Cornwall Police said two men in their 20s were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
One man suffered a "potentially serious injury" and two other men had minor injuries. Police have since confirmed the injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing.
The people involved are believed to be known to each other, and police say there is no wider risk to the public. In an update on August 25, Devon and Cornwall Police said the two suspects remain in custody.
Residents remain unsettled, with some contacting politicians over concerns that there are not "enough police officers on the ground".
MP for Truro, Jayne Kirkham, told CornwallLive: "I have spoken to the police yesterday after the incident in Truro, which was a shocking incident. People have been talking and posting online about the incident as well as getting in touch with me. There will be increased police personnel in Truro over the next few days to support the community and I will be speaking to the Chief Constable and Police and Crime Commissioner."
Councillor Steven Webb said the video footage was "hard to watch" and that "something like that is shocking anywhere." He added: "When it is on a street you use every week it hits hard. My first thought is for the man who was badly hurt, and I hope he recovers." When asked about constituents reaching out to him, Cllr Webb said: "A few have, and it is less about this one incident than about police cover in Truro generally. People feel there are not enough officers on the ground and they want to see them. I share that. I am working with Jayne Kirkham MP and others across the city to push for more police cover for Truro. That said, I do not believe Truro is an unsafe place to live, work or visit. The police have said the people involved are believed to be known to each other and that there is no wider threat to the public." Cllr Webb added: "Truro has had its ups and downs with antisocial behaviour and crime since Covid, the same as any comparable town or city in the South West. I still believe Truro is a safe place, and I believe this was an isolated incident."
Police have urged the public not to share rumours and speculation online as it "may compromise and prejudice our investigation".
