Two beachgoers have been rescued by members of a local surf lifesaving club after getting into difficulty at a popular beach.
The incident happened at Mawgan Porth, a village outside, nicknamed Hollywood-on-Sea for the number of A-list celebrities, such as Cate Blanchett, who have bought property there.
The rescue took place at 7.13pm last night (Saturday, August 15) after the RNLI lifeguard had left for the day.
While Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team, Newquay RNLI Lifeboat and Newquay Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 924 were called to the scene, it was a member of the Mawgan Porth surf lifesaving club who paddled out to the casualties before being assisted by off-duty RNLI lifeguards from Newquay.
A spokesperson for Newquay coastguard search & rescue team said: "They waited for assets to arrive on scene. With Newquay CRT on shore and 924 above, Newquay lifeboat picked up both casualties and took them back to safety at Newquay Harbour to be assessed by an ambulance.
