Police Confirm Death of Man at Truro Moorfield Car Park

A 41-year-old man from the Truro area has been found dead on the ground floor of a car park in Truro.

The incident was reported as a concern for a person's welfare at Moorfield Car Park in Calenick Street, Truro, on Monday, August 17.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the man was found dead on the ground floor of the car park. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The force said significant enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the man's death, which is being treated as unexplained. A cordon remains in place around the closed ground floor of the car park while forensic examinations and searches are carried out. Officers are also reviewing CCTV footage to establish the man's movements before he died.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have information or witnessed anything suspicious in the area between the afternoon of Friday, August 14 and 10.45am on Monday, August 17.

Detective Inspector Jon Bray said: "Our enquiries are at an early stage as we work to establish the circumstances surrounding this man’s death.

"We are appealing to anyone who may have information or witnessed anything suspicious in the area between the afternoon of Friday 14 August and 10.45am on Monday 17 August.

"There will be an ongoing police presence in the area while enquiries continue and anyone with concerns is encouraged to speak with officers at the scene.

"The inside ground floor car parking area will remain closed today while detectives and specialist teams carry out their investigations. The outside parking area remains unaffected.

"We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding around the ongoing police presence. Anyone requiring access to a vehicle within the cordoned area should speak to officers at the scene who will assist them."

Eyewitnesses first reported seeing police cars arrive at the scene at around 3pm, and the police confirmed in a statement yesterday that paramedics were also in attendance.

Several police vehicles and forensic officers remained at the scene at 6pm yesterday, with the car park completely cordoned off and police retrieving customer vehicles for them.

One eyewitness said: "There was 4/5 police cars quite a few officers in uniform and some that weren’t and as for how much is sealed off the whole entrance to the underground car park at the back of mallets in Truro."

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact police via the Force website or by calling 101, quoting reference 50260218970.
