Motorhomes and campervans may be banned from parking overnight at two waterfront car parks in Plymouth.
The proposal from Plymouth City Council covers Mount Batten Pier car park and Richmond Walk car park, following complaints from locals that some vehicles were occupying spaces for days at a time.
If the plan is approved, motorhomes and campervans would need to leave by 11pm and could not return until 8am.
Cllr John Stephens (Lab, Plymstock Dunstone), cabinet member for strategic planning and transport, said the council was not against motorhomes.
“These vehicles take up a lot of parking spaces and reduce parking options for people visiting local businesses if they are there for several days. They can also obstruct deliveries.
“We are not banning them during the day but we need to consider everyone.”
He said parking charges had been ruled out for the free car parks because they would be hard to enforce.
The councillor added that there was still a wish to find a dedicated site in the city for motorhomes and campervans.
Other proposed parking orders include merging the short-stay and long-stay areas at Plymstock Broadway into one, and introducing a monthly long-stay discounted ticket alongside the existing annual and daily tickets.
Cllr Stephens said a monthly ticket of £60 would be easier for some people to budget for, although it would cost more over a year than the annual ticket of £445.
People would still be able to park for free for three hours, but could pay to stay longer anywhere across the large parking area, which would no longer have designated boundaries.
The changes follow feedback from residents and businesses and are open for public comment until September 10.
