A full list of figures has been published showing how much Exeter city councillors were paid in allowances and expenses for the last year.
Exeter’s councillors received a combined total of nearly £442,000 for their work over the past year, according to local democracy reporter Guy Henderson.
Only £1,000 of that total came from expenses claimed by members of the council. The bulk of the payments are fixed allowances set by an independent outside body without any input from the city council.
The allowances are designed to allow working people to serve on their local authorities without suffering financially as a result.
The figures were published ahead of a meeting of the executive committee. Leader Phil Bialyk (Lab, Exwick) said it was important for local authority members to be fully transparent about the money they received.
Payments range from a dozen city councillors receiving the basic member’s allowance of £7,070 up until the end of March 2026 to Cllr Bialyk, whose allowance as leader is £30,049.
Councillors receive extra allowances above the basic rate for roles such as committee chairs, portfolio holders, group leaders and the Mayoralty.
The full list, including allowances and expense claims up until the end of March this year, is as follows. A number of councillors stood down or were not re-elected at the polls earlier this year.
