A young person suffered a potential spinal injury at Portheras Cove on Monday, August 24. Lands End Coastguard was called to assist the Penzance crew, as a young casualty was already being treated by first responders and paramedics when the coastguard crews arrived. The coastguard helicopter was called to the scene, and crews made their way down the beach to the injured person. Once the injured person was recovered from the beach, they were transferred on for further care. The extent of their injuries is not known, but Lands End Coastguard said they had a potential spinal injury.
In a statement posted to social media, Lands End Coastguard said: "We were tasked to assist Penzance CRT with a casualty who had a potential spinal injury.
"When we arrived on scene, Penzance CRT were already with the young casualty, along with a First Responder and paramedics. The Coastguard helicopter ‘Rescue 924’ had also just arrived on scene and was making an approach to the beach to offload the winch paramedic.
"Some of our team made their way down to the beach to assist with recovering equipment, and to ensure members of the public stayed back while the aircraft landed again to retrieve the casualty and paramedics.
"They repositioned the helicopter to a field adjacent to the waiting ambulance, where we had set up an HLS, and then transferred the casualty to allow them to leave for onward care.
"After a short debrief, we departed to return to the station."
