Devon County Council has awarded a £1.2M contract including VAT for highway stabilisation works on the A377 at Weirmarsh slip.
The contract has been awarded to Newton Abbot-based Bridge Civil Engineering through the council’s Minor Engineering Works Framework Contract 2026-2030.
The scheme includes construction of a 50m highway stabilisation retaining wall along the A377. According to Devon County Council, the embankment supporting the A377 at Weirmarsh suffered a landslip in 2021, causing the edge of the carriageway to collapse. The south-bound lane has since been closed under two-way traffic lights for public safety.
Under the new works scheme, approximately 23.5m of the wall will comprise a piled wall with a timber parapet, while approximately 26.5m will comprise a mass concrete wall with a masonry parapet. The works also include associated highway resurfacing over an estimated 970m.
The contract was signed on 17 August and runs from 18 August to 12 March 2027. The procurement notice states that work is due to start on site on 14 September.
Bridge Civil Engineering is classified as a small or medium-sized enterprise and the contract was awarded through a below-threshold procedure under the Minor Engineering Works Framework Contract 2026-2030, using a competitive selection process.
