A young girl described as "beloved", "intelligent" and "dedicated" died after collapsing at a cricket club in Cornwall last week, leaving her family to process the "devastating loss".
CornwallLive reported Amélia Jones died after an incident at a cricket ground in a village between St Austell and Truro. Her family has said she will be "forever loved and forever remembered".
Amélia has been described as "a deeply loved daughter, sister, friend and cherished twin of Charlotte" who "brought so much happiness to the people around her". She loved "netball and cricket, and had so many interests" which made her "wonderfully and uniquely" her.
Last week, Amélia captained the Cornwall Girls Under-14s against Glamorgan, showing how "talented, confident, and determined" she was. Her family has said she will be "forever loved and forever remembered" and that her passing has "left an unimaginable void" in the lives of everyone who knew her.
Amélia's uncle, Sean Jones, told CornwallLive her family donated her organs to help other families who are in need. A GoFundMe has been set up by Amélia's uncle to help the family with funeral costs. At our last check the fundraiser had raised more than £16,000. Sean added: "Any extra funds will be donated to a suitable charity."
Emergency services were called to Grampound Road Cricket Club on Thursday evening (August 20) after reports a young girl had collapsed. She was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth via air ambulance, but sadly passed away.
The cricket club described the incident as "tragic", adding Amélia's death was believed to be medically related and not connected to cricket. A cricket club spokesperson said: "It is with profound sadness that Grampound Road Cricket Club can confirm a tragic incident took place on Thursday evening. A teenage girl collapsed and was taken to hospital, but has now sadly died. This is believed to be a medical incident not connected to cricket."
The Club chair Lewis Sanders added: “Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with her family, friends and everyone who knew and loved her at this unimaginably difficult time. We will respect the family’s privacy and ask others to do the same. We would also like to thank all those who responded on Thursday evening, particularly those who provided immediate first aid and the emergency services including the Cornwall Air Ambulance.”
