Drunken Truro Woman's 9am Concrete Ornament Revenge

Drunken Truro Woman’s 9am Concrete Ornament Revenge

An alcoholic woman who "doesn't get on" with another woman she has had issues with for years carried out a revenge attack with a concrete garden ornament at 9am on June 30. Katheryn Jones turned up at her rival's home in Truro and made a scene.

An altercation followed, and the victim chased Jones out of her home. Jones, who was drunk at the time, then grabbed a concrete ornament and threw it at the front door, damaging the door and the lower glass panel.

Jones, of Polwhele Road, Truro, was arrested by Devon and Cornwall Police. She made a full and frank admission about the incident but said she did not remember picking up anything and throwing it at the other woman's house. She eventually admitted it when shown CCTV footage. She was charged with one count of criminal damage and pleaded guilty.

The incident happened when Jones was 18 months into a suspended sentence for an unrelated matter.

In a short victim personal statement, Jones' victim said it was not the first time she has had issues with Jones, adding: "I am tired and stressed. Katheryn never stops. She has appeared from nowhere before, is drunk and aggressive. I feel like a prisoner in my own home."

Jones, 48, has previous convictions for eight offences, including criminal damage in 2023 and arson in 2015.

At a sentencing hearing at Truro Crown Court on Thursday August 20, Jones' barrister said she had made a full admission and had entered a guilty plea at the first opportunity. He said the criminal damage happened during the peak of the altercation between the two women.

His Honour Judge Simon Carr called it another "sad example" of the misuse of alcohol and the prevalence of the internet. He said there is no doubt both women said things to each other they regret, adding: "It was not an excuse to go to her address and confront her. You were on a suspended sentence for another unrelated offence. You are an alcoholic. The only solution for you is not to drink ever."

Judge Carr sentenced Jones to 100 hours of unpaid work, £300 compensation and a restraining order not to contact her victim or go to her address for five years. He added: "This animosity needs to come to an end and you need never to come to her property ever again."
