A woman has told a court she was sexually assaulted by a police officer, who allegedly said “I know the law and I need you to say yes”.
Fiona Anderson, aged 33, a police constable with Devon and Cornwall Police, denies two charges of sexual assault during a visit to Cardiff in 2018 and is on trial at Bristol Crown Court.
On Tuesday, the complainant in the case gave evidence and told jurors that Anderson had been drinking heavily before getting into her bed.
"I could smell the alcohol on her when she was trying to initiate sex with me,” she said.
"When she tried to have sex with me, I realised that she was disgustingly drunk.
"She said to me ‘I know the law and I need you to say yes’."
The complainant said she "just froze" as Anderson, from Exeter, began kissing and biting her before removing her underwear.
She alleged that Anderson then performed non-consensual oral sex on her before vomiting in the bathroom.
Jenny Tallentire, representing Anderson, said her client denied removing the complainant’s underwear or sexually assaulting her.
Ms Tallentire asked whether the complainant was angry with the defendant for being drunk and vomiting.
The complainant replied: "I was angry with Fiona for sexually assaulting me."
Ms Tallentire asked the complainant whether she had "exaggerated" what happened, to which the woman replied "no".
Emma Martin, prosecuting, previously told the jury that Anderson and the complainant had spent the evening together in Cardiff.
The complainant then went to bed, with Anderson later entering the room and allegedly attempting to initiate sex with her.
She told jurors that following that night, she was "struggling to come to terms with the fact that Fiona had sexually assaulted me".
"She said it didn’t happen, that I was misremembering or maybe it had happened but not as I was remembering it," the woman said.
"Fiona was telling me I was untrustworthy because I had said that she had sexually assaulted me."
The complainant said she did not report what happened until 2023, when she spoke to police officers regarding a separate incident.
Anderson, who has been suspended from duty since her arrest in March that year, denies any non-consensual sexual activity with the woman.
Her trial, expected to last for four days, continues.
