Police have shared an update after a suspected World War Two missile was found in Cornwall on Monday, September 21.
An unexploded ordnance (UXO) was found at Falmouth Docks on Monday. The bomb squad believes it is an American missile from the Second World War.
Initially, Devon and Cornwall Police set up a 150 metre cordon covering both land and sea. That was later expanded to 300 metres, and police now say it is likely to be expanded further.
CornwallLive reported that three homes were evacuated, but more local residents said they have been told they "cannot return to their homes".
In an update on September 22, Devon and Cornwall Police said the cordon is still in place around the dock and is likely to be increased as "work progresses".
Falmouth Harbour and Balaena Falmouth have issued a 'Notice to Mariners' stating that the object will be removed for disposal at an unconfirmed time.
The notice said water users "must keep well clear" of the exclusion zone. Follow our blog here for the latest updates.
An update from Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Partner agencies continue to assess the unexploded ordnance (UXO) and work is ongoing to determine the safest and most appropriate course of action. A 300-metre cordon is in place while specialist assessments are carried out. The results of ongoing military assessments will help determine as to how they will go about disposing the device safely and plans are in place to prepare for all eventualities. It is likely that the cordon will be expanded as work progresses. Should any changes be required that could affect additional communities, we will provide updates at the earliest opportunity. We would like to thank residents, businesses and visitors for their continued patience and cooperation. All agencies involved are working closely together to resolve the situation as safely and quickly as possible."
