Work has started on 40 new homes designed for local people on the edge of a Cornish town.
The Hedhas Tewynnow development at Connor Downs, near Hayle, is now officially under way. Treveth, the arm's length housing development company of Cornwall Council, has appointed Sureflow Building Services as the contractor. The scheme will provide a mix of affordable rent, open market rent, shared ownership and open market sale homes.
Treveth said the new homes will be sold to people who live and work in Cornwall, with local connection criteria used to prioritise local people for homes wherever applicable.
Dominic O’Neill, development director at Treveth, said: "We're really pleased to see work getting underway at Hedhas Tewynnow. Reaching the start-on-site stage is an exciting milestone and we’re looking forward to seeing the development take shape over the coming months.
"Connor Downs is a well-established community and this development will provide 40 much-needed new homes for the area, helping more people to find a home in this part of Cornwall."
The homes will feature modern, energy-efficient technologies such as air source heat pumps, helping to cut reliance on fossil fuels and support lower-carbon living. Landscaping and biodiversity measures are also part of the wider site design, reflecting Treveth’s commitment to considering the environment alongside delivering new homes.
Hedhas Tewynnow is the latest addition to Treveth’s growing residential portfolio, following the recent milestone of delivering more than 500 new homes across Cornwall. Established by Cornwall Council, Treveth operates under its In Cornwall, For Cornwall ethos, delivering homes and communities for the benefit of people who live and work in Cornwall, with profits reinvested into Cornwall’s public services.

The first homes at Hedhas Tewynnow are expected to be ready to move in towards the end of 2027.
