Police have closed a kebab takeaway in Truro for three months after a violent incident outside the premises last month.
The Central Grill on Calenick Street was shut down this week after Devon and Cornwall Police applied to Truro Magistrates' Court for a closure order under section 80 of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. Magistrates granted the order with immediate effect.
They said: "We order that premises Central Grill 9 Calenick Street, Truro, including any external areas attached to this premise be closed immediately and remain closed for three months."
The closure follows a violent incident involving a large knife on August 24 which forced armed police to intervene and shut the road.
Two men have since appeared in Truro Magistrates' Court in connection with the violent disturbance. Seyin Zurel, 24, and Sinjar Zurel, 27, both from Scobles Terrace in the Malpas area of the city, appeared before the court on August 26. Both have been charged with two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Sinjar Zurel has also been charged with one count of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm in connection with the August 24 incident and one more of possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place, namely a large kebab knife. They were remanded in custody to appear before Truro Crown Court later this month for a plea and direction hearing.
Neighbourhood Team Leader Sergeant Dave Pearce said: "It is important that the local residents, businesses and visitors to Truro city centre feel safe. This is a positive step to reassure the public that anti-social behaviour in any form will not be tolerated. We will monitor the premises over the next three months and will take a robust approach towards any reported breaches of the closure order.
"Truro remains a safe place to live and work and we encourage anyone who witnesses any act of anti-social behaviour to report as soon as possible via the Force website so the behaviour can be addressed."
The court heard that the late-night kebab and burger shop posed a persistent and serious nuisance to members of the public.
PC Charlotte Grimstead, from the Truro Neighbourhood Police Team, worked closely with the Force's legal department and the local Cornwall Council ASB Team to secure the closure order.

"This order being granted shows the strong collaborative approach that we will take to ensure that Cornwall remains a safe place to work, visit and live. We would like to thank the businesses who came forward and, also, the good people of Truro for their ongoing support."
No one other than the owner of the building, emergency services or statutory agencies will be permitted to enter the premises. Anyone who contravenes the closure order is liable to a fine or imprisonment or both.
