Thirty people were evacuated after a fire broke out in a flat in a four-storey building.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called to Hospital Road in Plymouth after reports of flames coming from a first floor flat window. Eight fire engines were sent to the scene, and fire crews rescued seven people from separate flats.
Devon and Cornwall Police said the incident began just before 00:00 BST on Sunday. Inquiries are ongoing to locate an individual wanted in connection with the fire.
The flat where the fire started was destroyed, and the first-floor communal area suffered slight damage. Two other communal areas were also damaged by smoke. Crews used water jets and breathing apparatus to deal with the incident.
Police confirmed nobody was injured.
