Truro MP Urges New Post Office Site as Closure Nears

Jayne Kirkham, the MP for Truro and Falmouth, is calling for a new post office in Truro. The branch inside TJ Jones is set to close on October 6, and she is leading efforts to find a replacement site.

She says a central location is vital for residents who cannot travel to other branches or use online services.

"It's imperative for the people of Truro who can't use the internet," the MP said.

"There are many post office services that people need to come into the post office – and prefer to come into the post office to use – and they simply can't access other post offices out of town."

"Truro is the capital of Cornwall – it needs its post office back."

The Truro Business Improvement District (BID) has acknowledged the concerns and says it is actively searching for a new city centre site. The closure comes as a local bank is also set to shut, adding pressure on banking and postal services.

Ms Kirkham said the Post Office has started looking for another shop to host a branch, but she is worried there could be a gap in service. The nearest alternative is at Trelander, across a dual carriageway, which she says could be hard to reach for people without transport.

She said she will keep working with the mayor, councils and the BID to pressure the Post Office into securing a new site as soon as possible.
