South West Water has explained what caused water supply problems in several Devon towns over the past few days.
Reports of problems in Paignton, Kingsbridge, Buckfastleigh and Totnes started on Thursday evening. By Saturday, September 5, South West Water (SWW) said engineers were working to restore supplies.
The company said the issues stem from air pockets in the network, while problems at a water treatment works were blamed for low pressure in Kingsbridge.
In an update on Sunday, September 6, SWW said teams were continuing to work to restore normal service "as quickly as possible."
A spokesperson said: "We experienced some issues with equipment at one of our water treatment works which led to some customers experiencing low water pressure or a temporary loss of supply. While the original issue has now been resolved, air pockets formed within the network which affected supplies for some customers. Our teams are working to restore normal service as quickly as possible."
In posts on X, SWW said bottled water stations had been set up at Cattle Market Car Park in Kingsbridge and Meadowbrook Car Park in Dartington for affected customers. They were due to remain open until 10pm on Sunday.
It added: "Some customers may also notice their water appears slightly discoloured. This can sometimes occur following repairs or changes in flows through the network and is usually short lived. The water remains safe to drink, and running the cold tap in your kitchen for a short period should help clear it. In most cases, any discolouration will clear within 24 hours."
