The A39 in Cornwall was closed in both directions this morning (Wednesday, September 23) after a two-vehicle crash. The road was shut between the Marshgate turnoff and the B3262, with drivers warned of delays in the area.
A man was trapped in his car after the crash and had to be rescued by fire crews. He was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth with a "life-changing" injury, police confirmed.
Traffic monitoring site Inrix reported the crash at 7.18am. It said: "A39 in both directions closed, slow traffic due to accident between the B3262 and Marshgate turn off. Note change of location. Originally reported from Tresparrett turn off."
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the A39 near Otterham on Wednesday 23 September at around 6.30am following a report of a two-vehicle collision. A man in his 40s was extracted from his vehicle by fire crews and was taken by ambulance to Derriford Hospital where he is being treated for potentially life-changing injuries."
Inrix reported the A39 cleared just after 11am.

Drivers travelling northwards from the Camelford area are diverting towards Hallworthy along the B3262, which is causing some traffic trouble as it joins the A395. Motorists travelling southwards from the Collamoor Head area or from the Bude Camping and Caravanning Club Site are similarly diverting, heading along the B3263 towards Tresparrett Posts, where there are similar minor delays.
