Newquay's Minor Injury Unit will stay closed until October 2026 because of ongoing staffing problems. The temporary closure has been extended as the unit cannot recruit enough specialist clinicians to run a safe and reliable service, according to Newquay Town Council.
The rest of the hospital is operating normally while the minor injury unit remains shut. Recent vacancies and staff sickness led to sudden changes in opening hours, which prompted the planned closure.
Recruitment of specialist practitioners has been under way for several months. A new clinical lead is expected to join the team soon, allowing a phased reopening of the unit on 5th October 2026. Initially, the unit will open on reduced days, focusing on peak times to help train new staff while recruitment continues.
In the meantime, patients can use minor injury units in St Austell, Bodmin, and Camborne Redruth. Live opening and waiting times are available on www.cornwallft.nhs.uk/miu-waiting-times.
