A modified e-bike that set off a speed camera in Truro has been seized after reports it was being ridden dangerously in the city.
Community members raised concerns about an e-bike rider in the Tregurra area last week.
Officers from the Truro Neighbourhood Policing Team found the rider and gave them a Section 59 warning for "antisocial use" of the vehicle.
The e-bike was seized on Thursday, September 3, according to Devon and Cornwall Police.
Police said the e-bike was being ridden without insurance and the rider did not hold the correct licence.
Inspector for the special constabulary, Dave Christophers, said: “E-bikes are heavy pieces of equipment and, when illegally modified to exceed the legal speed limit and ridden carelessly, they can pose a significant danger to other road users, pedestrians and the rider themselves.
“We take no pleasure in seizing e-bikes, but when they have the potential to cause serious and in some cases life-changing injuries, it is important that we take action.
“We are here to keep everyone safe and we will continue to be out in our communities doing just that.”
Under UK law, e-bikes must not be ridden on pavements and may only have electrical assistance for speeds of up to 15.5 mph.
Anyone who suspects an e-bike or e-scooter is being used illegally is asked to report it to Devon and Cornwall Police.
