A police commander has responded to social media comments after an Islamic community centre was ram-raided in Cornwall.
Hasan Kilic, the volunteer imam at the Cornwall Islamic Community Centre near Carnon Downs, outside Truro, said he was called by a neighbour at 7am on Friday, September 18, who told him the metal gate to the centre had been smashed.
When he arrived a couple of hours later, he found the wrought-iron gate mangled and torn off its hinges. More concerning, he also found a combustible substance had been poured over the grounds up to the entrance and splashed on the walls.
The incident is understood to have happened at 11.20pm on Thursday, September 17. Mr Kilic said CCTV shows two vans ramming the gate, then two people got out and threw oil around.
