Parade Commemorates Cornish 9/11 Hero Rick Rescorla

Rick Rescorla, the Cornish hero who died saving thousands of lives during the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks, has been commemorated with a parade and ceremony 25 years on.

Rescorla was head of security for Morgan Stanley and was working in the South Tower on 11 September 2001. He evacuated more than 2,500 people from the building before returning inside. His body was never found.

Children from Penpol Primary School in Hayle, where Rescorla was a former pupil, joined the parade alongside members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force and Parachute Regiment.

Hayle town clerk Eleanor Giggal said they wanted future generations to remember what Rescorla did.

The 9/11 attacks involved 19 Al Qaeda members hijacking four commercial passenger planes in the US.
