A North Devon firefighter is taking on a 750-mile pedal go kart journey to Lapland to raise money for charity. Scott Butler, from Braunton, will travel from Hanko at the bottom of Finland up to Rovaniemi, otherwise known as Lapland or Santa Claus's village.
He is raising funds for Go Beyond, a charity that provides free residential breaks for children facing serious challenges at home. The charity has centres in Buckfastleigh and in Tywardreath near Par in Cornwall.
Scott told DevonLive: "This is a solo journey, with everything I need in my kart trailer- all supplied by the legends at Berg. Aiming for 45-50 miles a day."
"I'm raising money for Go Beyond charity who are a UK charity tackling some of the biggest societal challenges through their work with children who desperately need a break."
"They put magic into their lives, through inspirational respite holidays with no screens and lots of time spent outdoors."
He added: "I desperately wanted a Go Kart as a kid, but despite a whole host of amazing presents over years, I never did quite get one. So why not, as an adult, live the karting dream and bring smiles to people's faces, raise money for a good cause and arrive at good old Santa's home and deliver one to him instead?!"
