Exeter Railway Club Treasurer Admits £200,000 Fraud

A railway club treasurer in Exeter has admitted defrauding the club of more than £200,000.

Daniel Powell, 39, served as honorary treasurer of the Great Western Railway Association Club when he abused his position, the court was told.

Powell, from The Strand in Starcross, appeared before magistrates in Exeter on Monday, September 14. He pleaded guilty to one charge of fraud.

The offence spanned nearly four years, from July 2021 to May 2025. During that time, Powell was expected to protect the club's financial interests. Instead, he dishonestly abused his position to gain £203,637.

He is due to be sentenced at Exeter Crown Court on October 12. The court has ordered a pre-sentence report.
