An investigation is underway after a 21-year-old farm worker died when he was crushed by machinery, an inquest has heard.
Thomas Dendy, from Newton Abbot, was working at Shadrack Farmhouse in Berry Pomeroy near Totnes on April 30 2026 when the incident happened, Exeter Coroners Court was told.
Area Coroner Mr Nicholas Lane said Mr Dendy had not been seen or answered his phone for around 90 minutes despite numerous attempts to contact him.
Mr Dendy was then found in a barn where a hydraulic operated grain trailer had been parked.
He had become pinned between a drawbar and a chassis on the trailer.
The inquest on September 2 heard that Mr Dendy suffered crushing to his chest.
Emergency services attended and he was declared dead at the scene.
The coroner said Mr Dendy’s death is subject to an ongoing police and health and safety executive investigation.
The inquest was adjourned and will be held at a later date.
