Chief Constable James Vaughan will continue to lead Devon and Cornwall Police, with his tenure now extended until August 2028. The confirmation came from Alison Hernandez, Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
Hernandez said the extension ensures stable leadership for the force as it faces upcoming changes, including the government's plan to abolish the role of Police and Crime Commissioner in May 2028.
Vaughan took up the role in December 2024. He has been praised for his strong leadership during significant organisational changes.
Hernandez highlighted cultural and performance improvements under Vaughan's leadership, including better call answering times and the successes of Operation Resolve, which has moved officers back to frontline positions.
Vaughan said he was honoured to continue serving and committed to improving public service through the dedication of officers and volunteers.
The extension provides continuity as the force works to improve community services and tackle crime across Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
