A woman from Cornwall has died after a parasailing accident while on holiday in Spain.
Beverley Ann White, from St Austell, is said to have crashed onto rocks after a strong gust of wind caused the parasailing line tethering the parachute canopy to the towing boat to break in Benidorm last month.
The 66-year-old went into cardiac arrest on impact with the rocks. Efforts to revive her after she was taken to Villajoyosa Hospital near Benidorm were unsuccessful, and she died from her injuries.
A man, aged 47, believed to be her husband, survived the tragedy. He is thought to have suffered injuries including broken ribs, and was described as walking wounded after the accident on August 10.
The incident happened at around 6.50pm after a sudden change in weather led to a red flag being raised for swimmers in the popular Costa Blanca resort. An orange alert had been issued for the entire Alicante province that day, with weather chiefs warning of severe storms, large hail and dangerous wind gusts.
An inquest is due to open into her death at Cornwall's Coroners Court in Truro tomorrow (Tuesday, September 8). A list of inquest openings lists her name as Beverley Ann White, aged 66, of St Austell. It says she died on August 10 in Villajoyosa, LA, Spain.
A full hearing will be held at a later date.
