The Devon and Torbay Combined County Authority (DTCCA) has launched a £9.3 million capital investment programme to create more places and improve educational facilities from 2026 to 2030. Educational institutions across the region are being invited to take part.
The programme responds to a projected increase in demand for post-16 education and training, with an expected rise of 1,595 additional learners by 2030. It aims to ensure young people can access high-quality education and training close to home.
Projects that increase capacity are the focus, including new teaching spaces, specialised facilities, and necessary infrastructure. Eligible lead applicants include Exeter and North Devon Colleges Group, South Devon College, and Cornwall College. The DTCCA also encourages collaboration with schools, academies, independent training providers, and community organisations to propose innovative projects that meet regional workforce needs.
Cllr David Thomas, Chair of the DTCCA, said: “This funding will help expand post-16 education and training provision by creating more learner places and improving facilities where they are needed most. By encouraging strong partnerships between colleges, schools, training providers and other organisations, we can build a more inclusive and resilient skills system.”
