Woman Rescued After Slipping on Rocks at Golitha Falls

A woman has been rescued from Golitha Falls after slipping on rocks and suffering a significant ankle injury.

East Cornwall Search and Rescue Team (ECSRT) was called to the beauty spot on Bodmin Moor at around 3.54pm on Saturday (August 15) to assist South Western Ambulance Service with the casualty.

The woman had fallen on rocks at a location just beyond the second wheel pit, with friends at the scene when rescuers arrived.

The first ECSRT team member reached the car park within 15 minutes of being requested to attend before making their way to the casualty and joining a Community First Responder. Team members and a paramedic assessed the woman and administered pain relief before reducing and stabilising her injured ankle.

A total of 14 ECSRT volunteers were then involved in carrying the woman from the difficult-to-access location back to the car park.

She was subsequently handed over to ambulance crews for onward transport to Derriford Hospital for further treatment.

The rescue came as Bodmin was holding its annual carnival parade, with ECSRT adding a light-hearted apology for missing the event while responding to the emergency.

The team reminded the public that its volunteers provide an inland search and rescue service for people who are lost, missing or injured across East Cornwall and further afield when required.

In an emergency, members of the public are advised to call 999 and ask for Devon and Cornwall Police, requesting Mountain Rescue.

The team said its volunteers are available to respond to incidents in challenging locations and provide specialist assistance alongside emergency services.

The incident highlights the potential risks faced by visitors exploring the rocky terrain around Golitha Falls, particularly after slips and falls in areas that can be difficult for emergency crews to access.
