The whole of West Devon turned their heads to the sky last night as the UK experienced its first major solar eclipse this century.
The once-in-a-generation event saw around 94 to 96 per cent of the Sun covered in Devon, more than in most of the UK.
For nearly two hours, residents watched as the Moon passed across the Sun, darkening the sky to a twilight glow, before the balmy summer evening returned as the Moon continued on its journey.
The last major eclipse in the UK was in 1999 when the country witnessed a total solar eclipse with the path of totality passing over Cornwall and the Channel Islands. The next total solar eclipse in the UK will be on 23 September 2090.
