Several rapists, a woman who defrauded her own mother, a drug-using violent burglar, and a racist knife attacker are among those sent to prison this month.
The Crown Court handles the more serious cases, while lesser offences are dealt with by Cornwall's magistrates' courts, located in Bodmin and Truro.
Here we look back at the cases where only a prison sentence or a hospital order was considered appropriate.
A rapist asked a taxi driver to take his vulnerable victim to his caravan instead of her home, then attacked her, a court heard.
Craig Brassington befriended his victim online and both agreed to meet up.
On the night in question, Brassington and his victim had plenty to drink, and she asked him to call her a cab because she wanted to go home.
Instead, the 43-year-old, now from Carn View, Gwennap, asked the driver to take them back to his caravan, where he raped her despite her protests.
The assault happened in the summer of 2021 in the Redruth area. Brassington tried to stop his victim from coming forward by emailing and messaging her, attempting to dissuade her from giving evidence against him.
His victim did come forward and reported the rape.
Brassington was arrested and convicted of two counts of rape by a jury after a trial at Truro Crown Court in June this year.
In a victim impact statement read out during a sentencing hearing at the Crown Court on Thursday, August 27, Brassington's victim, who has faced challenges in her life and was extremely vulnerable that night, explained the impact the attack has had on her life.
She said she has struggled to portray an image of herself as being "normal" so people would not see the pain she has been carrying inside her.
She said the attack has led her to mistrust people and her life has not been the same since.
In her statement read out in court, she said: "I have lost people who were close to me. I have lost my self confidence. I'm struggling to feel safe. But there is hope. I want to be rebuild myself and have a fresh start and a new beginning.
"I want to be able to trust again and build a better life for myself."
In mitigation, Jason Beal told the court that Brassington has no previous convictions, there have been delays in bringing the case to court, and he had a "sad upbringing with Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) being a contributory factor".
Mr Beal said Brassington had taken to heavy drinking and also has Type 1 diabetes, which had curtailed his ability to work in recent years and will make any custodial sentence more difficult.
His Honour Judge Simon Carr said Brassington had taken advantage of his victim when she had been vulnerable after having too much to drink that night.
He said Brassington asked the taxi driver to take his victim to his caravan instead when she had wanted and asked to go home. Judge Carr said being under the influence of alcohol was not a mitigating factor but an aggravating one for Brassington, adding that the impact of the rape on his victim would be "lifelong".
He said his victim had been vulnerable and, to make matters worse, Brassington had tried to influence her when he contacted her to try to persuade her not to report the rape or give evidence against him.
