A video shows the moment five people were stranded after being cut off by the tide at Chapel Rock.
The lifeboat 'Ivan Ellen' was launched from Penlee station at about 4pm on Saturday (August 29) in response to a separate incident at Kynance Cove. However, the vessel, under the command of Coxswain Amy Smith, Mechanic Andrew Wood and their crew of RNLI volunteers, was diverted when it emerged people were in need of assistance at Chapel Rock.
Upon arrival they launched the Y-boat but the Coastguard Helicopter became the 'safest option of extraction' according to Penlee RNLI. The chopper winched the five people to safety and transferred them to Coastguard teams on the shore.
It's unclear at this stage why a rescue was required and why the individuals did not wait for the tide to go out. This incident occurred during Penlee RNLI's annual lifeboat weekend. Visitors would have witnessed the procedures as teams responded to the Coastguard's requests.
The second part of the open weekend takes place today (Sunday August 30). Members of the public are invited to board the lifeboat and meet the crews.
