Artists from Newlyn built a 'huge poo' and dragged it from Newlyn Green to a controversial development site near the Jubilee pool in Penzance on Bank Holiday Monday.
Performers dressed as flies swarmed alongside as the giant brown swirl moved serenely along the promenade. The event was described as 'a random act of art', with organisers inviting people to 'come and be a fly'. They were also invited to dress in dark clothes, wear wings and masks, and play a kazoo.
The sculpture finally rested at St Anthony Gardens.
Protesters are unhappy about revised plans for the area and South West Water pumping sewage into the sea. The issue concerns a scheme to deliver 11 affordable homes as part of the redevelopment of Coinagehall Street in Penzance.
Lucy Birbeck, who organised the event, thanked everyone for their support and said the land on which the development was to take place was the Holy Headland (on which the original Chapel stood), from which Penzance got its name. Penzance is Cornish for Holy Headland.
Cornwall Council cabinet members have previously criticised 'misinformation' in the run-up to the protest.
The council and its construction company, Treveth, argue that the affordable properties will still be built but via a different funding mechanism.
