Nearly 900 Sign Petition Against Illogan Cricket Field Homes

Nearly 900 people have signed a petition calling on Cornwall Council to reject plans for 40 new homes on Illogan's 'Cricket Field'.

Campaigners describe the 1.6 hectare site off Mary's Well, near Redruth, as one of the area's few remaining open green spaces. Kingsley Developments has submitted plans for a mix of single and two storey homes on land previously used as a plant nursery.

Since the application was validated on July 7, it has attracted 63 objections on Cornwall Council's planning portal, with no comments in support. Illogan Parish Council has also strongly opposed the scheme, raising 26 concerns including traffic, highways, planning policy and its impact on the village.

A Change.org petition had attracted 893 signatures at the time of publication. Campaigners want the land protected as green space, with ideas including allotments, community gardens, food growing areas and improved wildlife habitats.

They argue Illogan has already seen significant development and that another 40 homes would put further pressure on the village while removing valuable green space.

The petition states: 'The Cricket Field represents one of the few remaining areas of open green space serving the surrounding community. Once this land is built upon, it will be lost forever
