Cornwall Train Shortage Prompts Cancellations

Cornwall Train Shortage Prompts Cancellations

On Friday, 21 August 2026, a shortage of trains is causing cancellations on Cornwall's railways. Services between Truro and Falmouth Docks will be disrupted until the end of the day.

Great Western Railway (GWR) says one of the trains normally used on the branch has developed a fault and has been taken out of service for repairs. Another train is available but can only cover part of the timetable, meaning several services will be cancelled throughout Friday. GWR's maintenance team is working to resolve the issue.

Passengers planning to travel today are being advised to check live updates and consider alternative options. Tickets will be accepted at no extra cost on local bus services. If your train is cancelled, GWR says you can travel on either of the two services before or after your original train. Even if these are peak or less flexible services, your original ticket will still be accepted.

Passengers are encouraged to use the National Rail Enquiries real-time journey planner, check live departure boards, or speak to station staff.

A GWR spokesperson added: "If you miss the last train of the day due to cancellation or because another train was delayed, we won’t leave you stranded."

Passengers can contact GWR for more information. If you arrive 15 minutes or more late due to a delayed or cancelled GWR service, you may be eligible for compensation. Claims can be submitted at GWR.com/DelayRepay.
