Cornwall Launches First International Strategy to Boost Global Role

Cornwall has published its first International Strategy, setting out plans to increase its presence on the world stage. Cornwall Council said the strategy will help showcase the Duchy as a unique place to live, study and invest, drawing on its centuries-old cultural heritage as well as its growing reputation for innovation and sustainable industry.

The Council said Cornwall’s language, traditions and landscape have long shaped its sense of place and will underpin its international ambitions. The strategy positions Cornwall as a confident, outward-looking nation with a strong cultural identity.

As the Fifth Nation of the UK, the strategy aims to raise global recognition of Cornwall as a nation while supporting economic growth and strengthening opportunities for international students. A key part of the work involves developing a unified brand for Cornwall to shape how the Duchy is perceived internationally. The brand will support future campaigns aimed at attracting investors, visitors, students and workers.

A new website, cornwall.uk, has been launched to give global audiences a look at Cornwall’s opportunities, including cutting-edge businesses, investment prospects and world-renowned educational institutions.

Councillor Leigh Frost, leader of Cornwall Council, said the strategy marks a significant moment for Cornwall’s future.

“This International Strategy sets out the partnership approach which will underpin our global interactions so everyone can prosper. It is a statement of intent about Cornwall taking a bigger role on the world stage. Our future is rooted in who we are – our culture, language and heritage – and it is driven by collaboration, innovation and economic opportunity.”

He added that Cornwall is already pioneering new industries and attracting students from around the world.

“Cornwall has so much to offer and this is about making sure we do all we can to promote Cornwall in the right places, and to the right people so we can build a global reputation for innovation, education and creativity.”
