Cornwall Wildlife Trust is encouraging people to report lost fishing gear after two bull huss sharks were found trapped inside a lost crab pot.
Matt Slater, the trust's marine conservation officer, came across the pot and the trapped fish while diving with a friend. They were diving as part of a Cornwall Council-funded project monitoring maerl beds off St Mawes, Cornwall.
Slater said: "It's amazing that two sharks would fit in there. It takes sharks a long time to die but they would have starved to death eventually. They could have been trapped in there for weeks."
