A community centre in Cornwall is now offering free ultra-fast Wildanet broadband, delivered through the UK Government’s Project Gigabit programme.
Praa Sands and District Community Centre hosts a busy programme of activities each month, including its live event film club, art groups, weekly keep-fit sessions, yoga and karate classes, and a range of community events.
The new full-fibre connection will help the centre expand what it can offer, supporting reliable Wi-Fi for film screenings and streamed content, online bookings, ticket sales, event promotion, card payments for stallholders, fundraising events, and digital resources for classes, meetings and community groups.
It will also strengthen the centre’s role as a venue for local meetings, celebrations and training sessions, giving hirers dependable connectivity for presentations, hybrid meetings and online learning, making the centre an even more inclusive and useful resource for the community.
Peter Thompson, Chairman of Praa Sands and District Community Centre, said: “We are really pleased that the Community Centre is now connected to Wildanet’s full fibre network.
“The Centre is used by so many people, groups and organisations, and having a reliable connection will be a real benefit both for the day-to-day running of the building and for what we can offer the community in the years ahead.”
The connection, provided free of charge for an initial three-year period, has been delivered by Wildanet as part of its work to bring fast, reliable broadband to rural communities across Cornwall through Project Gigabit.

The installation was formally marked during the Praa Sands and District Community Centre Summer Fayre on 15 August.
Previous Project Gigabit installations include Godolphin Cross Community Association and St Keverne Parish Hall, with more community sites set to follow. Wildanet currently has full-fibre capability for over 1,500 homes and businesses in the area, with further rollout underway.
